Cross Connection Control Program

All owners/operators of public water systems are required to protect their water supplies from contamination resulting from a cross-connection or backflow incident.

The owners/operators of a public water system must conduct an assessment to find any contamination or potential contamination to the water supply.  A comprehensive cross-connection control program includes provisions for the protection of the drinking water supply by requiring the installation of backflow prevention devices if there is a potential hazard to the water. The type of backflow protection used must be commensurate with the degree of hazard that exists. The PWSSP regulations (NNPDWR Part 2000) identify the minimum types of backflow protection required based on the hazard or potential hazard that is present.

Backflow Assembly Testing

All backflow prevention assemblies must be tested annually by a certified backflow assembly tester. A copy of the test results must be submitted to the PWSSP.

Backflow assemblies will be inspected during a sanitary survey inspection of the public water system.  The owner/operator will need to make available the backflow annual test results when the sanitary survey inspection is conducted.

Please see NNPDWR §2000 for more information.

Certified Backflow Assembly Registration

All Backflow Testers are required to be certified and are required to register with PWSSP.  Upon approval by the Director, a Backflow Tester Identification card will be issued.  CLICK HERE to download the Certified Backflow Tester registration form.  Currently, there are no registered testers on the Navajo Nation.
